Monday Terrain Corner

So, I’m back in the office after one of the greatest Thanksgiving breaks I’ve ever had. Thursday I was at my friend’s place. We gamed. We had turkey. We watched football. It was amazing. Friday, I had friends over at my place for Thanksgiving 2: Thank Harder. We games more. We had more turkey. We… didn’t watch football, but we did play Mario Kart… which is nothing like football, but still… And then Saturday I went to a game shop in Alabama to play Guild Ball and put together a Gundam model, then went out for authentic German food. Sunday I rested (I really needed it by then).
It. Was. Amazing.

And today, I’m back in the office, playing hella-catch-up because I basically didn’t touch anything work-related for around 96 hours. 😛

Anyway, lets get your gaming tables looking as good as our dinner tables from a couple days ago.

Wyrd Previews Propagandist From Above the Law

It could be said that all advertising is some form of propaganda. And, really, all the stories on here are a form of advertising. So, it could be argued, that I’m in the propaganda business. Though I’m not really sure I like the ring of that. But waddyagonnado? You’re gonna read about the Propagandist pursuit coming from the Above the Law expansion for Through the Breach.

From the post:

The Propagandist is a new Social Pursuit found in Above the Law. The Propagandist’s core mechanic is The Voice of the People: each time the character succeeds on a Social Skill duel, they gain stackable a Condition that increases the final duel total of their Art, Printing, and Convince duels for the rest of the session. This encourages a Propagandist to stick their nose into other peoples’ business right from the very start of an adventure, as it just empowers their ability to spread rumors and propaganda later in the session.

Trade And War – Ancient Mediterranean Board Game Up On Kickstarter

Over the centuries, many different groups have inhabited the lands surrounding the Mediterranean, and they have fought with each other for every bit of coastline they can get. New Warmachine and Hordes Releases Available From Privateer Press

The second wave of November releases is now available from Privateer Press. They’ve got still some more Cygnar releases. The Trolls are getting some more new figures. And to keep everyone warm, Menoth’s got a colossal release. So whether you’re more for the Warmachine or the Hordes side of things, there’s possibly something new for you.

o Boost the scale of warfare with the full rules for Unbound, now updated to the new edition rules. Unbound lets you play giant battles with multiple ’casters utilizing streamlined rules.
o Fight for the hardiest kith and kin with the Northkin theme force, detailing the background, organization, and lives of these frosty Trollbloods.
o Plus, catch up on the history of the Iron Kingdoms with the next installment of “The Fire & The Forge,” explore the contested city of Fellig in “Hostile Territory,” and get some insight on the stats of upcoming releases in “After Action Report.

Blockhouses are often built to support Cygnaran trenchworks, providing girded fire bays and supporting fire in the event of an enemy overrun of the front. Able to withstand direct artillery fire from all but the heaviest enemy guns, these blockhouses return fire with salvos from their impressive cannons while acting as mustering points to reinforce embattled trencher platoons.

As turn the wrenches of the mechaniks, so turns the war. Trencher combat engineers are even tougher and more combat-ready than their field mechanik counterparts in the regular Cygnaran Army. Every man and woman among them must be as adept with a firearm as they are at maintaining and repairing the warjacks and weapons of the platoon.

Dedicated raiding bands are vital for smaller kriels that rely on their spoils to survive. These skirmishers use ambushes and hit-and-run tactics. Raiders carry firebombs used to set buildings ablaze to distract sentries and lure them from storehouses, bombs equally effective against massed infantry. It is also their job to plunder downed foes after a skirmish, a task veteran warriors consider beneath them.

Few warchiefs command so black a reputation as the acrimonious Valka Curseborn. Noted for a foul temper, he has become bitter and ruthless with the passing of the years. At each battle’s end, he looks around himself with bloodied axes, taking in the carnage he has unleashed, disgruntled that he still draws breath. He seeks a hero’s death but is too stubborn to die easily. The foe worthy to claim his life has yet to stand before him.

The consecrated colossals of the Protectorate of Menoth are towering masterpieces of faith and war. The Revelator strips away the obscuring magic of profane casters and scorches the earth to leave nothing but ashes behind.

OR?! Party Card Game Up On Kickstarter

In life, there are choices. Left or right? Fries or salad? Sandals or boots? Well, OR?!, a new party card game up on Kickstarter, asks you all sorts of questions like this, forcing you to decide between two horrible options. It’s a new take on Would You Rather, a game that most of us have played many times before.

From the campaign:

We all have deep and unsolved questions burning inside of us. But we struggle to find a time and place to express these burning questions. As much as we want to ask the checkout lady if she would rather “have no skin or have no bones?”, we don’t, because we’re grown adults and should know better. It would also be a strange thing to ask while she scans in my laxatives and bottle of vodka.

But we at ‘Yeah Nah Man’ have created a game that solves this everyday issue. We dove deep into what questions our strange minds were holding and poured that into the great party card game this is”OR?!’.

OR?! Is a ‘Would you rather’ style party game for modern people. It’s easy to play and will expose your and your friends true moral compases. You will really see how far rock bottom is in the people you know and love.

With 9 game types to choose from, each tailored for a different gaming experience, ‘OR?!’ will be a party favorite time and time again.

The Kickstarter campaign is up and running now. It’s set to go for another 18 days.

Fantasy Flight Games Posts New Fallout: the Board Game Preview

One thing about Fallout is that you get to decide how you act within the world. From the post:

The ultimate post-nuclear tabletop experience of Fallout: The Board Game is about to arrive, and there’s one element of the game that we’ve been saving for this moment. Privateer Press Posts New Warmachine/Hordes Previews

Privateer Press has updated their homepage with quite an assortment of new previews. There’s some Retribution, there’s some Trollbloods, there’s some Cygnar, there’s some Circle… like I said, it’s a bit of everything. If you want to know what’ll be coming out soon, there’s apparently a lot, and chances are good your faction will be getting something.

House Vyre was once noted for its sinister weapons of war, and the Siren harkens back to those morally dubious inventions. Capable of mystically seizing control of those it slays to turn them against their former allies, the Siren makes use of terrifying technology. Only the dire nature of the Retribution’s cause justifies its use, employed only against those who would harm the gods.

The vast energies controlled by the Convergence of Cyriss are focused and harnessed by machinery tuned to the alignment of the stars and other celestial bodies, an art perfected by Eminent Configurator Orion. He cares little for the lives of lesser beings. Directing potent blasts of geomantic energy to scythe through his enemies, Orion can calculate an array of trajectories using higher mathematics in fractions of a second.

Dire Troll Brawlers go to battle wielding oversized flails made from stout iron chain and scavenged scrap metal. Bellowing primitive war cries, brawlers hurl themselves at any opponent, swinging these chains in sweeping, unpredictable arcs. What these trolls lack in intelligence they compensate for with raw delight in brutal combat and laying their opponents low.

Under the mentorship of Marshal Ashlynn d’Elyse, Gastone Cross has begun to reach his potential and fights alongside the other determined warriors of the Llaelese Resistance. Yet he struggles to control the weapon that first unlocked his warcaster ability. A survivor with a proven knack for battlefield improvisation, few who fight alongside him know of the darkness weighing on his conscience, as the soul of every foe he kills is consumed to strengthen him.

The Wold Wight is a fiercely aggressive construct fabricated amid older rituals of the Circle Orboros; it is an entity that hungers to destroy. While its blazing lanterns are fearsome weapons, their true purpose is to set the wight ablaze. While afire, the wight closes with an enemy to devour it in a sacrificial pyre that consumes everything but the wight’s stone heart, which can be salvaged.

The northern reaches of the Skorne Empire are a wild untamed place where beasts like the hydra and mammoth roam—only the fiercest of skorne prosper here. Among them is Primus Jalaam, one of the greatest hunters of his people, a cunning warlock who feels no shame killing his enemies at a distance. He is as effective stalking intelligent prey as are the beasts of his homeland.

Pygs make for particularly effective lookouts. The pygs’ natural hardiness and adaptability to the elements lets them stay in the field for an indefinite period. They have keen eyes and can spot approaching forces from a great distance. When battle begins, their size allows them to sneak about at the fringes of conflict and lie in wait unseen.

There are few living things that have accomplished as much as Barnabas, Lord of Blood. Having achieved his goal of transfiguration amid gory carnage, Barnabas has risen from death as a god. Wielding the dark magic of his people, augmented by his own defiance of death, the Lord of Blood goes to battle attended by undead skeletal companions called bone shakers. Together they collect bloody sacrifices from the flesh of any who would oppose his growing cult.

The conjoined brothers Kwaak Slickspine and Gub were born with the gift of sorcery. This unusual pair fights on behalf of the croak tribes allied to the Blindwater Congregation, hoping to one day secure a permanent home for their people. The uniting of their bodies and souls allows them to output a blistering storm of magic, which they use to destroy any foe the Blindwater Congregation has marked for death.

Gatormen bokors do not loathe death, as other creatures and their dark arts are sacred rituals. The dank powers of death rise steaming from the swamps and can be bound into dead flesh, harnessed to augment the cold-blooded warlocks leading the Blindwater Congregation. Bereft of thought and suffused with necromantic power, the Soul Slave serves as a conduit for the will of its master.

Representing an expansion of House Vyre’s myrmidon production in support of the Retribution of Scyrah, the Harpy is a formidable machine that generates deadly blasts of wind designed to hurl adversaries back, if they are not immediately torn apart. It is a sleek engine of death favored by the more tactically minded warcasters of Ios.

The terrifying and ghostly witch Agrimony, more often whispered of as the Crone of the Dying Strands, is herself enslaved to Captain Rengrave, the first citizen of Cryx. She is nearly as old as her master, once having ruled her own island and standing apart from the pirate kings of old, who feared her curses.

Kapitan Sofia Skirova has earned a place of prestige among the officers of the Black Dragons, the elite of the elite, veteran Iron Fangs who have vowed never to retire from active duty. She ably demonstrates why their emblem is feared, intercepting blows intended for her soldiers while refusing death itself so long as her brothers and sisters in arms are threatened.

Champions of the Order of the Wall inspire their fellow paladins to push past their limits even as they ride down enemies of the faith. Hails of gunfire rebound harmlessly off the heavy shields of these master horsemen as they charge across the field, utterly decimating anything unlucky enough to be caught on the wrong end of their blazing lances.

A battle-hardened gun mage of the Order of the Arcane Tempest, Lieutenant Bastian Falk takes on special assignments in support of the Cygnaran Army. He has mastered several unique tactics over the years and is particularly notable for the rare ability to use his gun mage powers through a scattergun, allowing him to unleash a devastating barrage to tear through enemy ranks.

Wyrd’s Winter Wonderland Issue Is Your Gain

Working in the gaming industry, there’s a lot of going ahead with plans as set on your timetables and hoping that everything should work out right. Occasionally, they don’t. Something comes back from the printer’s that’s messed up. A sculptor’s work gets destroyed in a freak accident. Or you end up with a box of minis that are miscast. Unfortunately, that last one is what happened to Wyrd with their Winter Wonderland box that’s part of their holiday sale. However, their loss is your gain. They’re tossing in another mini with the box (though it will be a bit of a delay in getting your sets).

From the update:

Hey everyone!

We got back to the office after a nice Thanksgiving break, cracked open the shipping boxes to start shipping out orders, and… uh oh.

At some point in the manufacturing process, the Winter Wonderland models encountered some problems. Namely, the mold for the alternate Rasputina sculpt appears to have collapsed at some point during the manufacturing process.

Instead of shipping out a damaged and inferior product, we’ve decided to save Christmas with a replacement sculpt. The Snow Storm, Ice Gamin, and Wendigo in the Winter Wonderland box will still be made of plastic, but Rasputina herself will be remolded in high quality resin. This will, unfortunately, result in a delay of around two to three weeks in shipping out any order that contains one or more Winter Wonderland boxes (everything should still be shipped before the holidays).
